The university for foreigners has inherited a centuries-old tradition of teaching Italian that, in the city of Siena, sees its beginnings as early as 1588 with the establishment of the first Italian-language chair for German students. The University deals with the teaching and dissemination of Italian language and culture, the study of Italian in contact with other languages and the training of teachers of Italian as a foreign language. It publishes degrees, master’s degrees, masters and research doctorates to Italian and foreign students. It also organizes courses in Italian language and culture for foreign students.
It is the oldest Italian university mainly oriented to foreign students. Although it specializes in teaching and disseminating Italian language and culture abroad, Stranieri offers university training to Italian students through degree courses in advertising communication and international cooperation. The University of Perugia also deals with the training and updating of teachers who teach Italian as a foreign language.
The National Foreign Language Teacher Association aims to promote teaching in schools so is primarily geared to language teachers. The association’s activity is based on the conviction that language study is at the base of international peace building. To this end, ANILS organizes conferences, congresses and courses, both autonomously and in collaboration with (or with the sponsorship of) MIUR/MPI and/or foreign cultural institues present in Italy.
ILSA is a cultural association of Italian L2 teachers working in public and private educational institutions. ILSA mainly deals with training and updating of teachers engaged in multilingual classes and intercultural education, both in public schools and in other educational contexts.
CEDIS has been collaborating with the CVCL of the University for Foreigners of Perugia for many years and is Head of the CEDIS – CELI Lazio Network, formed by 56 Schools of Italian for Foreigners affiliated with CEDIS which are therefore CELI Exam Center. We can thus offer at reduced costs for foreign immigrant citizens all levels of the Italian language CELI Exams for foreigners.
